45. In response to my enquiry the Commissioner, Ajmer-Merwara, had informed me that there were no Sanskrit manuscript to be found in that province. But a friend held out hopes of my finding some in Ajmer itself, and so I went thither and saw three Digambara Jaina Bhandars there. One was a good and big one, but not at all in good order. Another was a small one, but the person in charge had a little knowledge of English and had come to appreciate the advantages of a good list giving all the particulars necessary for the identification of any particular work and had taken the trouble of making one.
