    17. I also came across a work called Sūktāvali, which, like some other anthologies, quoted verses from poets of the past and in addition mentioned the occasions on which they were composed. Thus, there are given certain verses sent bv Kumārapāla to Jaitrachandra, beginning “Śrījaitrachandraṁ praṇipatya.” The verses beginning “Māndhātā sumahīpatiḥ” which are given in the Sārṅgadharapaddhati as a message from Bhoja to Muñja are cited to have been composed when the latter ordered the former to be executed on learning from the mouth of an astrologer that Bhoja would reign over the Dekkan and the Gaudas for fifty-five years, seven months and three days. Śrīharsha is credited with a boast that whether in hard philosophy or in soft poesy language was thoroughly at his command; and also Hemasūri with one speaking slightingly of Pānini's and other grammars. Kālidāsa is referred to as being non-plussed by certain girls on the boundary of Kashmir when he was going thither to conquer it; Bāna and Mayūra as disputing with their king and being sent to Kashmir; and Someśvara as writing verses in praise of Vastupāla, although put down by the latter by the power of his office, when there was some discussion between the two.
