    Gātha 229

     

    As the farmer feels satisfied only when finally he has brought home his harvest which grows in the open and needs to be safeguarded against thieves, etc., the ascetic too feels satisfied only when finally he has brought to his soul the austerities and the scriptural knowledge which grow externally and need to be safeguarded against the thieves in form of the senses.
