    Gātha 223

     

    The ‘camara’ [note 1] deer, running away, in fear of her life, from the chasing lion or the hunter, stops, out of infatuation, as her beautiful tuft of hair on the tail gets entangled in the creepers. And, she gets killed. Alas! Due to her infatuation for the tuft of hair, she is deprived of her life. It is right; excessive infatuation, invariably, brings about calamities.
