a) the assumption of the 5 minor vows (anuvratas, s. pp. 31-32, sutras 13-17 – with special attention to avoiding the 5 major aticharas (downfalls), s. UPĀSAKADAŚĀ SŪTRA, sutras 43-49,[1] always aiming at mokṣa, practicing twice a day āvaśyaka[2] and beginning the 73-step ladder of righteousness[3] with saṃvēga, i.e., striving to ascend the 14 steps of the spiritual ladder of the purity of soul, guṇasthāna, to the seventh or eighth degree of purity and at the same time beginning to realize the spiritual ladder of righteousness as up to and including the 39° (sahāyapratyākhyāna, renunciation of accompaniment) through full pauṣadha on the eighth, fourteenth and fifteenth days of the lunar month.
