Chapter 5.3 – Bhavābhinandī Jīva (A Rejoicer of worldly existence) [9 of 26]
Eight characteristics of a rejoice of worldly existence [5 of 8]
- Fear stricken: bhayavān–nityabhītaḥ—Since he is completely involved in the enjoyment of worldly objects, he always remains fear stricken from seven types of fears.[1]

[1] Bhaya (fear). There are seven kinds of fear stated in different lists with variations:
1. Iha loka bhaya: Fear of danger from objects or living beings of this world or about one’s future in this life,
2. Paraloka bhaya: Fear of danger from wicked gods or demons or of one’s position in next life,
3. Ādāna–bhaya: Fear of theft of one’s wealth and property,
4. Akasmād bhaya: Fear of unforeseen misfortunes,
5. Ājīvikā bhaya: Fear of the loss of the means of one’s maintenance,
6. Maraṇa bhaya: Fear of death, and
7. Apayaśa bhaya: Fear of dishonor.
The seven kinds of fear from another list are as follows:
1) fear relating to this life – ihalokabhaya,
2) fear relating to the next life – paralokabhaya,
3) fear of being without protection – atrāṇabhaya,
4) fear of losing what is possessed (fear of revealing what is being kept secret) – aguptibhaya,
5) fear of pain – vedanābhaya,
6) fear of accident – ākasmikabhaya, and
7) fear of death – maraṇabhaya.
